How Does Plastic Injection Molding Work?

The process involves several key steps:

  1. Clamping – The two halves of the mold are securely closed and clamped together to withstand the injection pressure.
  2. Injection – Plastic material (usually in pellet form) is heated until it melts and then injected into the mold cavity under high pressure using a screw or plunger.
  3. Cooling – The molten plastic cools and solidifies inside the mold, taking the shape of the cavity.
  4. Ejection – Once the plastic part is fully cooled, the mold opens, and the part is ejected using ejector pins.
  5. Finishing – The final part may undergo trimming, polishing, painting, or other secondary processes if needed.
